Stockholm the 10th of April 2001

Elvis Costello, Anne Sofie von Otter, Manfred Mann and Karl Bartos participate
in Polar Music Prize Ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden on the 14th of May.

The Polar Music Prize (founded by Stig Anderson who played a key role in the
enormous success of ABBA) has been awarded since 1992 for exceptional and
lifetime achievements, transcending musical genres and breaking down musical
boundaries. The Polar Music Prize Award Ceremony 2001 takes place in
Stockholm on Monday 14th of May, 4pm at Berwaldhallen, Stockholm, Sweden.
The three winners, who were announced in Cannes in January, Burt Bacharach,
Robert Moog and Karlheinz Stockhausen will receive the Prize from His
Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Elvis Costello, Anne Sofie Von Otter, Manfred Mann and Karl Bartos
(former member of Kraftwerk) are now confirmed to take part in the Prizegiving
Ceremony. Amongst dignitaries in the audience, lyricist and one-time Burt Bacharach
partner Hal David (who will also be representing ASCAP), Frida (ABBA),
Roxette and Nina Persson from The Cardigans will be in attendance.
Elvis Costello will read the citation for Burt Bacharach, Manfred Mann for
Robert Moog and Karl Bartos for Karlheinz Stockhausen. At the banquet on the
same day at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, a unique and exclusive performance
with Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach will take place.

Preparations for this year's Prizegiving Ceremony in Stockholm on Monday
14th May are moving along with incredible speed.
As the Prize celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, three Laureates are
being honoured instead of the customary two. Burt Bacharach, the inventor of
the MiniMoog synthesizer Robert Moog and Karlheinz Stockhausen will receive
the Prize from His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at Berwaldhallen
at 4pm. For the first time, Their Majesties the King and Queen will be
joined by the heiress to the throne, Crown Princess Victoria.

Facts about the Polar Music Prize:
The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by Stig Anderson. The Prize,
awarded since 1992 for exceptional and lifetime achievements, transcending
musical genres and breaking down musical boundaries, rewards each winner with one
million Swedish Crowns (approximately equivalent to US$ 115.000).

Past Prizewinners have been: Sir Paul McCartney, Dizzy Gillespie, Witold
Lutoslawski
, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Quincy Jones, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Sir
Elton John
, Joni Mitchell, Pierre Boulez, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Ericson,
Ray Charles, Ravi Shankar, Iannis Xenakis, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and
Isaac Stern and the Baltic States to encourage them in their work for protection
of copyright.
