The Prize candidates are nominated by members of: · CISAC (The International Confederation of Authors and Composers) · IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) CISAC (Confédération Internationale des Sociétés d´Auteurs et Compositeurs) Web Site: www.cisac.com All over the world composers, authors and their publishers have felt the need to organize themselves collectively and form societies in order to safeguard their interests as musical creators. The recognition of authors’ rights can never be taken for granted. Authors and composers know from bitter experience that their works are of a volatile nature, easy to make use of without respecting the rights of the creator. Respect for the author as a key element in the creative process cannot be overestimated. The widespread use and increasing rate of intensity with which music is used necessitates collective administration of authors’ rights. The tool is collecting societies like SACEM in France, GEMA in Germany, JASRAC in Japan, ASCAP or BMI in the United States and STIM in Sweden. Together they form CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers and the World Congress of Authors and Composers). It now has some 209 member societies from 109 countries, representing more than 2 million creators. In 2000, the total amount collected by CISAC members, taking all activities and all national territories into consideration, increased to more than € 6 billion.
